Critical and Decolonial theories have become a flash point in political discourse around the world. In the US "CRT" has become the target of "Trumpism". Nine US states banned the expression. The repudiation and vilification of ideas developed by critical and feminist approaches are at the core of a growing global reactionary right. However, in the peaceful garden of Europe, counter-hegemonic theories, especially those focused on race, remain ignored - including in academia. The EUI Legal and Political Theory working group announces the lecture series: Counterhegemonic Thinking: Critical Theory and Decolonial Studies in focus. Its first session, presented by the Brazilian lecturer and researcher Gabriel Mantelli (Universidade São Paulo), will focus on an introduction to the breadth of counterhegemonic approaches to law and politics, focusing specifically on the pillars of decolonial studies. Further, we will discuss the premises necessary for active engagement with the theories. This event is organised with the support of the Decentering Eurocentrism Interdisciplinary Research Cluster.
