This book presentation features Assistant Professor Clara Mattei (The New School of Social Research, New York) who will present her new book "The Capital Order. How Economists Invented Austerity and Paved the Way to Fascism."

This event is organised by the EUI Conversations on New Histories of Capitalism working group with the support of Professor Nicolas Guilhot.

About the speaker:

Clara Mattei is Assistant Professor in the Economics Department of The New School for Social Research and was a 2018-2019 member of the School of Social Sciences at the Institute for Advanced Studies. Her research contributes to the history of capitalism, exploring the critical relation between economic ideas and technocratic policy making. Her new book The Capital Order explores the intellectual origins of austerity policies and investigates how they were implemented as a reaction to unprecedented crisis of capitalism after World War I.
