Machiavelli Room, Buontalenti - Ex Dogana

Organised by

In this discussion, Nicos Stylianidis (University of Athens Center of Philosophy of Law) will discuss the concept of governance, and propose a systematisation of its various uses in different contexts.

Does governance start where rules end? What are the affinities and differences between legal rules and governance rules? How does the elusive concept of governance apply in different settings? Where do corporate governance and public governance meet? This discussion will explore the richness, flexibility as well as ambiguities of the ubiquitous concept of governance that has acquired an overriding importance in both theoretical and practical discourse. It will discuss and propose a systematisation of its various uses in different contexts, linked to actual practices and attitudes of actors, and explore governance principles and an inclusive definition of integral governance .

The event is open to all and will take place in Machiavelli Room in Palazzo Buontalenti and online. To participate, please register.

Nicos Stylianidis has studied law in Athens, London (LL.M. at the LSE) and Paris (PhD in analytic legal philosophy) and undertaken research and teaching at the EUI, the University of Paris X – Nanterre and the University of Athens Law School. He has practiced public law and public procurement contracts and served as advisor to the Greek government; he is currently acting as research coordinator in the University of Athens Center of Philosophy of Law.
