This project explores the effectiveness of judicial review of (EU and national) competition law by conducting an empirical study of all 10,000 published appeals on the application of Articles 101 and 102 TFEU and their national equivalents by national competition authorities ('NCAs', 2004-2021). This research sheds light on the practical reality of the effectiveness of judicial review, a topic that has been overlooked in modernisation of EU competition law enforcement. Through the assistance of 28 national teams, this project offers evidence to assess this aspect of modernisation, and raises concerns that the practical reality of the effectiveness of judicial review is far from the utopian ideal.
