However, we are left without a strong theoretical framework for how to make sense of and practice deliberative corporate governance, particularly when it comes to the relationship between stakeholder deliberation and stakeholder democracy. In light of these gaps, we advance a comprehensive deliberative systems conception of deliberative corporate governance. In developing this framework, we identify four variants that diverge based on a given corporation’s level of stakeholder deliberation and its governance arrangement (shareholder democracy or stakeholder democracy). This paper advances our understanding of how to foster deliberative corporate governance and the complex relationship between stakeholder democracy and stakeholder deliberation.
