The aim of this presentation is to examine the state of archival sources used to document the itinerary of a French ship wrecked off the coast of Sicily in the early 18th century, carrying Muslim pilgrims from Algiers and Tunis. How can we keep track, in the archives, of the eventful itinerary of people and things? More broadly, this question raises the issue of the number of threads to be drawn to compose a historical research: how far should these threads be drawn?
