The EUI Methods of the Early Modern Working Group hosts its first event of the academic year.

The Working Group has joined forces with colleagues from the University of Florence to organise a forum to discuss some of the practical problems historians face in writing history, especially in regards to the eighteenth century – notably a time of transition between early modern and modern history. Emanuele Giusti (UniFi) and Cynthia Sadler (EUI) will start the event off with insight into their current, respective research, focusing especially on the challenges they face in their work. This will serve as a starting point to an open discussion of problems of periodisation and writing. Coming together from different core areas, this will prove to be a fruitful, insightful, and exciting exchange on the problems of periodisation, especially, but not necessarily only in the early modern period. The event will be chaired by Laurelin Middelkoop (EUI).
