The School of Transnational Governance (STG) organises a series of lectures by high-level leaders addressing Africa's specific challenges. Speakers will cover a wide range of topics, including governance, peace and security, democracy, gender, digital policy, economics, sustainability, and migration.

We would like to welcome Ahunna Eziakonwa (online) and Emanuela Claudia Del Re (in-person), who will discuss with us partnership for peace and development with reflections and lessons from young leadership.

Ahunna Eziakonwa is UNDP Assistant Administrator, and Director, Regional Bureau for Africa at the rank of Assistant Secretary General. She leads over 4000 staff implementing a $1.2 billion annual development programme in 46 African countries. She is deeply passionate about equality, inclusion, reshaping narratives on Africa, mobilizing for youth entrepreneurs and the dignity of Africa’s people. She established the Africa Influencers for Development (AI4D) to ensure that Africa’s Money works for Africa’s Development; the Africa Young Women Leaders Initiative; Africa Innovates Magazine; and the Africa Borderlands Centre. She leads UNDP Africa socioeconomic response and recovery from COVID 19 and (Co-)Chairs the UN Africa Regional Collaborative Platform which oversees implementation of the Secretary General’s regional UN reform.

Emanuela Claudia Del Re took up the duties of EU Special Representative for the Sahel on 1 July 2021. Her mandate is to lead the EU's contribution to regional and international efforts for lasting peace, security, and development in the Sahel. She also coordinates the EU's comprehensive approach to the regional crisis, on the basis of the EU Strategy for Security and Development in the Sahel. Emanuela Claudia Del Re is an Italian national with a long academic career, having conducted extensive research in conflict areas in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. She was a member of the Italian Parliament and served as Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.

The event is part of the Africa's Potential series, carried out at the School of Transnational Governance, as part of the Young African Leaders Programme (YALP) funded by the European Commission, and is open to the EUI community, YALP alumni and the YALP network.
