Speakers will cover a wide range of topics, including governance, peace and security, democracy, gender, digital policy, economics, sustainability, and migration. We would like to welcome Francis Deng for his Africa's Potential session: One Country, Multiple Systems - A Conceptual FrameworkFrancis Deng is currently Co-Chair of the Governance Working Committee of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, R-JMEC, of the South Sudan Revitalized Peace Agreement, while also serving as Ambassador-at-Large. For the last four years, he was Deputy Rapporteur of South Sudan National Dialogue. Deng formerly held several senior diplomatic positions. He was Sudan’s Ambassador to the Nordic countries, Canada, and the United States; Sudan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; and the first Permanent Representative of South Sudan to the United Nations. Deng also held several positions in the United Nations Secretariat, first as Human Rights Officer; and later as Special Representative of the Secretary General on Internally Displaced Persons; and finally, as Special Advisor of the Secretary General for the Prevention of Genocide. Dr. Deng holds an Ll.B. (honors) from Khartoum University, and an Ll.M. and J.S.D. from Yale University. He has authored or edited over forty scholarly books on a wide variety of subjects and two novels on the crisis of identity in Sudan. Deng has held senior positions in leading U.S. universities and think tanks.Please register to join the event.
