Lat year's 'Florence: global?' event proved to be a successful and inspiring opening to new discussions and perspectives on the interconnectedness of Florence. The Visual and Material History Working Group aims to broaden the scope in its second roundtable talk.

What shaped early modern Tuscany as a region of importance in the Mediterranean? What role did material and visual culture play in establishing its name in the wider world?

'Tuscany' is a name that has transcended locations and evokes stories of power, money, dynasty, intrigue, and fame, as much as Florence. A network of locations, from the port city of Livorno via Carrara’s marble and Pisa’s botanical garden, still shapes Tuscany’s landscape and fame today.
