Corporate governance is not what it was when the term was invented more than 40 years ago. After a long period of being identified with shareholder value it is now entwined with concepts of sustainability and corporate purpose. Regulators are becoming more intrusive and less forbearing on matters of governance, especially in the European financial sector. Important changes in corporate finance have changed the way companies relate to their shareholders. And the advent of AI has created a whole new set of issues that need to come under the purview of corporate boards— but they are nowhere near ready to tackle them. Meanwhile, corporate governance has become an important global integration lever, its norms and practices converging across markets. Is this trend going to continue? Join us in a conversation with Stilpon Nestor to discuss the trends and challenges in corporate governance today and its importance in transnational governance.
