This online event will feature the editors of this collective e-book, covering key topics discussed during the first academic year of the EU Supervisory Digital Finance Academy (EU-SDFA) established by the European Commission DG-REFORM in 2022.

The financial landscape has undergone significant transformation due to the evolution of new technologies. This requires a new preparation by all parties involved and specifically by those who need to supervise it. Applying innovative technologies to different financial processes has propelled regulatory and supervisory authorities into a new era.

But what's driving these changes, and what are the risks and opportunities that come with them?

Based on the experiences of the 1st cycle of training of the EU Supervisory Digital Finance Academy, the recently published e-book 'Digital Finance in the EU: Drivers, Risks, Opportunities' aims to provide an overview of the most recent initiatives taken at European and global level, as well as the main drivers and technologies, and risks and opportunities arising from the application of advanced technologies to financial services, products, and markets.

During this event, the co-editors - Thorsten Beck, Director of the Florence School of Banking and Finance; Leonardo Giani, Research Fellow at the same institution; and Giuseppe Sciascia, Policy Officer at the European Commission DG REFORM - will present the overall concept and the key contents of the e-book.

Following, representatives from the European Supervisory Authorities will present the case studies treated in the workshop they organised.

A Q&A session will conclude the event.

This e-book is a valuable resource for all the EU-SDFA participants looking to enhance their learning and for anyone interested in the intersection of digital finance and supervision.

The EU Supervisory Digital Finance Academy (EU-SDFA) is a TSI flagship initiative aimed at supporting financial supervisory authorities in coping with the risks and opportunities associated to the use of advanced technologies in the financial sector. The European Commission – DG Reform has established the Academy in cooperation with the three European Supervisory Authorities (EBAESMAEIOPA) and the Florence School of Banking and Finance part of the Robert Schuman Centre of the European University Institute (FBF-EUI). The EU-SDFA encompasses comprehensive training cycles and workshops enabling the acquisition of new expertise and skills, knowledge sharing, and peer-to-peer exchanges within the financial supervisory community.
