The session will be chaired by Anaïs Brucher (PhD Researcher in Law). Competitive chess is an intriguing world that has gained much visibility in the aftermath of Netflix's hit show Queen's Gambit. Although truly unique in some respects, this "sport" is not unlike many others when it comes to gender inclusivity (or the lack thereof). This roundtable discussion aims to address the place of gender in sport and in (professional) chess in an informal setting, thanks to Daniela Movileanu's personal experience and in-depth knowledge of the field as a competitive chess player and twice winner of the Italian Women Chess Championship. Daniela will be joined by Pedro José Mercado Jaén (LAW) and Aude Foucoin (HEC), who will both discuss gender imbalance in sport more generally. This academic event, which is co-organized by the EUI Chess Club, is also meant as an opportunity to reflect critically and collectively about the gender imbalance in this and many other extracurricular activities of our Community.
