The Grand Chamber of the ECHR has announced the delivery of its long-awaited rulings on the climate litigation proceedings of Verein KlimaSeniorinnen Schweiz and Others v. Switzerland, Carême v. France, and Duarte Agostinho and Others v. Portugal and 32 Others on Tuesday, 9 April 2024. The judgment will likely have profound implications for climate change policy and national and international law more broadly. The workshop will take place the day after the Grand Chamber delivers its ruling. The participants will exchange preliminary thoughts and reflections on the judgment. After a brief introduction to the main findings, the discussants will take specific perspectives and comment inter alia on jurisdiction and admissibility, environmental protection consequences, and the court's climate change storytelling.Participants are encouraged to read the ruling, at least in part, beforehand. No specific knowledge is required as the event is meant to be a brainstorming session on a judgment that will likely be researched intensively in the coming years. Online participation to this hybrid event is welcome.
