The objective of the workshop is to bring an understanding of how organisations can benefit from equality, diversity, and inclusiveness.
Despite significant efforts through laws, guidelines, and campaigns over the past decades, strong barriers in terms of equality, diversity, and inclusiveness continue to persist within the workplace, representing a recognised issue that still requires effective and meaningful resolution. Even in the past few weeks, the US government, Amazon and Meta have confirmed their intention to roll back EDI efforts in due to a shifting legal and policy landscape (Sherman, 2025).
Academic institutions are not immune to such challenges. However, they possess the distinct advantage of serving as a privileged setting for promoting in-depth reflection on these themes and the cutting-edge approaches for addressing them.
The European University Institute is uniquely positioned to make a substantial contribution to this reflection. Being the leading institute in Europe dedicated to social sciences and humanities, the EUI possesses the authority and the necessary tools to facilitate a meaningful and influential debate that can drive positive change.
This workshop will focus on issues relating to gender balance, equality, diversity, and inclusiveness in both the academic and the administrative fields. Over two half-days, the event aims to confront, discuss, address and brainstorm with members of the EUI community and the wider Academic community, as well as external administrative staff and academic professionals. The workshop will facilitate an exchange of experiences and will foster a discussion to identify the most pressing issues that need to be addressed, as well as develop effective actions to tackle them.
The objective of the workshop is to bring an understanding of how organisations can benefit from equality, diversity, and inclusiveness and provide specific examples of strategies that can be adopted to promote these values in academia and, more generally, in all workplaces.
In addition, this event should be seen as the initial step in establishing a unique operational administrative and academic network in universities and organisations, to promote, advocate for, and defend equality, diversity and inclusiveness in academia and the workplace.
