Join this book launch discussing the relationship between normative systems in the analysis of certain Marvel and DC heroes, the role played by law and lawyers in different legal systems (either real or fictional), and the role of international law in the comic.

Far from being seen as childish products, comics have aroused the interest of academics as they can offer an interesting perspective to discover the widespread representation that is given to the legal (and political) reality. Although many distortions and clichés are still present, the way in which a phenomenon is told in comics (but also in TV series, movies, etc.) tells a lot about the way it is seen by their readers (and viewers), entering and remaining in the collective imagination.

This event will delve into the book 'The law in graphic narratives: Legal perspectives'. Edited by Giuseppe Martinico and Giampaolo Maria Ruotolo, the book starts from such premises and further analyses the idea of the legal world and operators in pop culture, in particular by looking at the context of American comics. Rather than embedding a sociological perspective or an anthropological analysis, the book aims to provide a wider appraisal of comics and pop culture from different legal areas, from legal theory to private law and from international law to comparative law.

The event will discuss the three main themes in the book: the relationship between normative systems (law and morality above all) in the analysis of certain Marvel and DC heroes, the role played by law and lawyers in different legal systems (either real or fictional), and the role of international law in the comic (multi)universe and in Japanese animation.
