The rise of AI presents both unparalleled opportunities and significant challenges when it comes to fostering inclusion, equity and political participation across societies. AI systems are becoming increasingly influential in decision-making, education, healthcare, employment, and other critical domains. As such, it is imperative to design, deploy, and govern these systems with a focus on minimizing disparities and promoting equitable outcomes.
The High-Level Policy Dialogue will explore key aspects shaping the relationship between people, AI and democracy, addressing themes such as:
· Inclusion and Equity in the AI Era
· AI, Civic Engagement and Political Participation
· Democracy in the Age of AI: Citizen-Centered AI
The event will take place in the context of the Chair in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Democracy, established by the EUI School of Transnational Governance, the Spanish Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, and the Institute of Democratic Governance. The project aims at conducting research, transfer knowledge, dissemination, teaching and innovation activities on matters related to AI and democracy.
This Policy Dialogue will provide a platform for representatives from academia, policymakers, officials and members of civil society to openly exchange views concerning the priorities of the STG Chair in Artificial Intelligence and Democracy within a transnational context, and it follows the Policy Dialogue Artificial Intelligence and Democracy: Contemporary Challenges and Perspectives hosted in May 2024 at the EUI.
Attendance at this event is by invitation only and all deliberations will take place under the Chatham House rule (no views or positions may be attributed publicly to any participant).
Following the recommendations that result from this discussion, a policy brief is planned to be published by the organisers as part of their public mission.
