Property and the laws that govern it have been a topic of long-standing scholarly interest. With globalization’s continued acceleration of the velocity at which property changes hands, and its inbuilt risks for global crises, scholars have become increasingly interested in understanding how property, both in its tangible (real estate, ships, or the means of production) and intangible (bonds, stocks or intellectual) has historically been managed. The symposium is divided into three thematic sessions. The topics are (1) Property as Inheritance, (2) Property as Assets, (3) Slavery & Property as Legal Category. The sessions will be chaired by Andrea Colli of Bocconi University, Alexia Yates of the European University Institute, and Yavuz Aykan of Université Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne. Please register to get a seat or to receive the ZOOM link.
