It also examines changes in Russia’s political economy under sanctions. The US-Russia relations have undergone a dramatic change since the start of the President Trump Administration. This change coincides with Russia’s own evolution towards a more authoritarian political system and an economy dominated by military spending and production. This seminar will assess the recent evolution of US policy towards Russia and its impact on Russia’s domestic and foreign policy, including its strategy towards its war in Ukraine and its attempts to secure closer partnerships with the Global South countries. The seminar will also address the key changes in Russia’s political economy in the context of Western economic sanctions as well as the potential impacts of a unilateral US sanctions reversal. The event will further explore the recent trends in Russia’s post-war diaspora (based on OutRush research) and recommendations on how the EU can support Russia’s anti-war civil society. This event will be conducted under the Chatham House Rule, ensuring a confidential and open exchange of ideas. At the EUI and the Robert Schuman Centre, we are dedicated to removing barriers and providing equal opportunities for everyone.
