The workshop starts from the assumption that capitalism is not predictable or homogenous and, therefore, that academics can learn as much from its ‘weird’ and unexpected features as they can from studying features assumed to be historically continuous. From meme stocks to cryptocurrency, the oddities of capitalism are increasingly of interest to scholars from a wide range of disciplines, including anthropology, history, sociology, political economy, law and economics. This workshop will provide a forum in which this nascent, multidisciplinary area of research can be further explored and developed. Thus, the 'Weird Capitalism' workshop will not only give fellows the opportunity to discuss their research but will also facilitate a network for future collaborations.
