This conference offers a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research on competition policy maturity and regional legal developments, providing valuable insights for academics, policymakers, and practitioners interested in the dynamics of competition systems across CEE and the Western Balkans.
The final event of the COMPO 1.0 Competition System Maturity and Cartel Enforcement project, funded through the EUI Widening Europe Programme, presents the projects key empirical findings.
Based on cartel enforcement and institutional data from Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Slovenia, the project developed an empirical framework for benchmarking competition system maturity, highlighting differences in the transformative capacity of competition authorities to change economic culture.
The programme includes a book launch panel exploring competition law and policy in Western Balkan countries (Pecotic Kaufman, Skara & Svetlicini (eds), Springer 2025), with contributions from leading regional experts; a presentation of the COMPO project findings on cartel enforcement and competition system maturity in selected Central and Eastern European (CEE) jurisdictions; and roundtable discussions offering comparative and analytical perspectives on factors influencing competition enforcement and institutional effectiveness.
