Use of AI for academic legal research and writing: powerful tool or potential threat?
Sala degli Stemmi and Zoom

This event will focus on the use of AI for academic legal research and writing.
The use of AI is likely to change many areas of life, and legal research and writing are unlikely to be an exception. In this roundtable, with (hopefully) active involvement by the participants we will engage in a form of brainstorming on possible use cases of AI in legal research and writing. For this purpose, we will also circulate a short document on tentative ideas and their appraisal to registered participants. The document explores possible beneficial uses but also cases where using certain AI tools is risky or improper in legal scholarship and writing.
Note that this event will operate under ‘Chatham House rules’ to ensure the openness of discussion (i.e. participants are encouraged to raise attempts of AI use freely without hesitation). The event is offered in a hybrid mode, but in-person attendance is preferred.
