After the Munich Security Conference. Which future for Europe?

J.D. Vance’s speech at the Munich Security Conference has reignited debates on the future of transatlantic relations, NATO’s role, and Europe’s strategic autonomy. As shifting U.S. foreign policy priorities challenge long-standing assumptions about European defense, the implications for security alliances, economic dependencies, and regional stability could not be more profound.

In a first attempt to decipher what a reduced US security commitment implies for all of us, this online roundtable will engage with the following questions:

• How is the new Trump administration redesigning the transatlantic relationship?
• What are the consequences of the US’s changing commitment towards European democracies and their security?
• What are the implications for free speech, foreign interference and disinformation?
• What are the most likely scenarios for Europe’s security build-up going forward?
• What are the main economic security issues at stake?
• What are the actions that Europeans can take in the short and medium term? And what is financially feasible?
• Do Europeans fully understand the critical juncture in which the continent is now at and are they prepared for what’s coming next?

The discussion will bring in perspectives from politics, economics and international relations offering a comprehensive assessment of how Europe should navigate this evolving security landscape.
