However, the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine severely disrupted international supply chains, increased the prices of agricultural commodities and food products, and altered global consumption patterns. These crises have affected all three core dimensions of food security: physical availability, economic accessibility, and nutritional adequacy. Amid rising geopolitical tensions, particularly in international trade, pressures on global food security are expected to intensify in the coming years. This lecture examines the current structure and dynamics of global agricultural markets, highlighting their implications for food security. It also explores the main factors influencing food security and discusses strategies for building more resilient food systems in the face of globalisation, political instability, and climate change.
