This event, organised by the Academic Service, will provide insights on productive writing strategies.
What is the June Writing Intensive Week?
Facilitated by instructors from the Centre for Academic Literacies and Languages (CALL) and Academic Service, the June Writing Intensive is a chance for EUI community members to set concrete goals for their summer writing and step away from the obligations and distractions of everyday life for one week to focus exclusively on writing.
Do you tend to make less progress on your writing than you’d hoped?
The Writing Intensive is designed to provide you with uninterrupted time and distraction-free space to write. We will kick off the week on Monday morning with a workshop on productive writing strategies and planning your summer writing schedule; the rest of the week will be devoted to silent writing time interspersed with interactive goal setting and reflection activities, allowing you make significant progress on your writing. To truly focus on writing, you will be asked to stay away from emails, social media, and the like for the five days (breaks excepted), giving you the opportunity to get some writing done and develop productive writing strategies that will last beyond the Writing Intensive. You will also have the chance to discuss the writing process and writing-related challenges with the facilitators and your fellow researchers. Furthermore, you will be able to receive writing support in other languages if requested.
Who Can Sign Up?
In order to sign up for the June Writing Intensive, the following conditions apply:
- You must be a current member of the EUI community.
- You should be working on a writing project that you want to advance through focused writing time and planning.
- You are willing to set goals and strive to reach them, to commit to a five-day program and to realise your potential for self-disciplined writing.
What Are the Logistics of the June Writing Intensive?
The Writing Intensive will take place over five consecutive days, June 16 – 20, from 9:30 to 16:30 CEST. The week will begin on Monday morning with a workshop on productive writing strategies and planning your summer writing schedule. Although each subsequent day will include interactive goal setting and reflection activities, the bulk of the week will be devoted to silent, structured writing time, allowing you to make significant progress on your research writing. The Writing Intensive is designed as an in-person event to allow you to take advantage of the social and motivational benefits of writing in a group setting. If you are not in Florence, please contact us about the possibility of hybrid attendance.
How Do I Sign Up?
To register for a place, please follow this link. Registration will close by the end of the day on June 1. We will contact you by June 5 to confirm your registration and provide you with a detailed schedule for the week.
