Scientific research is essential for shaping evidence-based policies to address these issues. This event will showcase the outcomes of ongoing collaboration and set a benchmark for future cooperation.

The evolving Transatlantic and European security landscape has intensified questions about the EU’s role as a global player, its ability to safeguard its security, and its capacity to uphold the international liberal order. At the same time, state and international institutions face mounting pressure, requiring a strong response to ensure stability and resilience. Key challenges include migration, foreign disinformation, and the legal implications of a shifting global order.

A vital aspect of this event will be showcasing the contributions of Ukrainian scholars whose research at the EUI has been supported by the JRC. These scholars have actively collaborated with specific departments within the JRC, enriching research on law, migration, and disinformation.

By highlighting their research, the workshop underscores the importance of academic collaboration in shaping informed, effective policies for Europe’s future.

Bringing together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners, the workshop will explore three interrelated themes:

Key Themes & Topics Narratives and Conflict in the Post-Truth Information Environment: This panel will explore how disinformation and misinformation are designed to shape public perception of conflicts in the post-truth era. It will focus on evidence-based research on media texts and articles, as well as the role of war narratives and digital information in Russian information operations.

Migration Governance in Times of Crisis and Disinformation: The panel will focus on the specific features of refugee integration in European societies, the perception of migrants and refugees, and disinformation on migration. Particular emphasis will be placed on anti-migrant narratives, attitudes towards migration, labour market integration of refugee women, and the role of cultural practices in migration governance.

Local Energy Solutions in Times of Crisis: The Impact of Community-Led Energy Initiatives: This panel discusses the role of community-led energy initiatives during times of crisis, particularly in response to energy shortages in Ukraine and infrastructure disruptions caused by war and other challenges. It explores how local solutions, such as decentralized energy systems and renewable sources, contribute to resilience, energy security, and sustainability.

The discussion will also examine the broader impact of these initiatives on policy, governance, legal framework, and community empowerment in crisis-affected regions.

Objectives:

  • To provide an evidence-based perspective on critical global challenges
  • To foster dialogue between academia, policymakers, and practitioners
  • To strengthen EU capacity for addressing disinformation, migration, and international legal challenges
  • To set the foundation for enhanced collaboration between EUI and JRC in tackling pressing policy issues

The event is open to all, but registration is mandatory.
