From adaptive learning platforms and predictive analytics to emotion detection systems and AI-driven proctoring tools, artificial intelligence is increasingly embedded in educational technologies across all levels of learning.

These systems are often promoted in the name of personalisation, efficiency, and innovation. Yet such narratives can obscure critical questions about the values, assumptions, and infrastructures shaping their design and implementation. This webinar brings together critical voices to unpack the political, ethical, and infrastructural dimensions of AI in education technology.

John D. Boy is an assistant professor of sociology at Leiden University and a fellow of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study. He is the author, with Justus Uitermark, of On Display: Instagram, the Self, and the City (OUP, 2024).
