Join Stephen Legomsky in this book presentation on reimagining American federalism.

Professor Stephen Legomsky will present his controversial book, Reimagining the American Union: The Case for Abolishing State Government, published in January by Cambridge University Press.

The book argues that US states are the root cause of many of the gravest threats to American democracy, as well as a needless waste of taxpayer money. It examines all the offsetting benefits that federalism is claimed to provide, concluding that each of these benefits could be achieved at least as well, often better, by the tens of thousands of local governments.

As the first book to argue for the abolition of US states, it sets out a blueprint for a new, unitary American republic and a new meaning of E Pluribus Unum.

The event will be moderated by Professor Liav Orgad and will feature commentary from Professor Kim Rubenstein and Professor Gregory Gordon. An open Q&A session will follow, offering participants the opportunity to join the discussion.

At the EUI and the Robert Schuman Centre, we are dedicated to removing barriers and providing equal opportunities for everyone. Please indicate in the registration form your accessibility needs, if any. Alternatively, you can contact the logistics organiser of the event.
