Scholarship on the causes, dynamics, and consequences of political violence has been rapidly evolving over the past decade. We now have an extensive set of theoretical insights and a large and ever-expanding set of empirical studies. However, some of the findings are contradictory, and there have been few efforts to synthesize the theoretical insights. The purpose of this workshop is to take stock of the theories, methodological approaches, and empirical findings on the different aspects of the study of political violence in order to formulate an agenda for future research.
