In the 1720’s, Ottoman diplomats began doing something they had never done before: submitting detailed (sometimes book-length) reports of their experiences abroad upon the completion of their missions. But what prompted them to adopt this new practice? Whom, exactly, were they writing for, and for what purpose? And what can their writings reveal about the Ottomans and their changing relationship to the rapidly globalizing world of the early 18th century? Register
