A roundtable discussion organised by the Florence School of Transnational Governance in collaboration with NYU Florence.
The pace of transformation in the information landscape, including new trends in the use of disinformation and the weaponisation of AI, brings a host of new challenges for the media and democracy as we know it. At the same time renewed controversies surrounding disinformation and freedom of expression and the regulation of global players in the information environment remind us of the risks deriving from the manipulation of the disinformation label and human rights language.
The roundtable discussion organised by the European University Institute's Florence School of Transnational Governance in collaboration with NYU Florence, aims to shed light on some of these rapidly evolving areas, including: the transformation in role of the media in democratic societies, the multifaceted disinformation landscape in the context of political processes, including in the case of Hungary and the EU’s approach to human rights protection in the regulation of very large online platforms and search engines.
