The STG Latin American Focus Group invites you to a webinar to explore, together with its authors, the European Parliament–commissioned study "Geopolitical aspects of the EU–Mercosur agreement"
The STG Latin American Focus Group, in collaboration with the STG Security Dialogue, is pleased to inaugurate its 2025 activities with a webinar dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the recent study Geopolitical aspects of the EU–Mercosur agreement, commissioned by the European Parliament.
The report will be introduced by its authors, Andrés Malamud and Luis L. Schenoni. Their analysis situates the EU–Mercosur agreement within the broader transformations of the international system, marked by shifting U.S. strategic priorities, the assertive roles of China and Russia, and the relative decline of Europe and Latin America in global power hierarchies. The study not only assesses the prospects for ratification of the agreement but also formulates policy recommendations regarding interregional cooperation, trade, governance, and the energy transition.
This seminar will provide an opportunity for critical engagement with the authors’ findings and for reflection on the geopolitical stakes of EU–Latin American relations in a changing world order.
