Join the INFOREPOL team as they present new evidence on how correcting misperceptions can reduce polarisation during elections.

This event presents and discusses the results of the INFOREPOL project, which examines misperceptions and political polarisation in Poland, with particular attention to the 2025 Polish presidential elections. Within the project framework, two innovative online tools were developed to provide voters with fact-based information about the policy positions of presidential candidates and the views and values of supporters of different Polish parties. A survey experiment was then conducted among the Polish population to test whether these tools could reduce affective polarisation, the tendency of citizens to distrust or dislike others based on their political affiliations and preferences.

The presentation will introduce the concept of affective polarisation, explain its consequences for democracy and social cohesion, summarise affective patterns in Polish politics, and present new evidence on how correcting misperceptions about political opponents may help lower mutual political hostility.

This activity is co-funded by the EUI Widening Europe Programme. The EUI Widening Europe Programme, backed by contributions from the European Union and EUI Contracting States, is designed to strengthen internationalisation, competitiveness, and quality in research in Widening countries, and thus foster a more cohesive European Higher Education and Research area.

At the EUI and the Robert Schuman Centre, we are dedicated to removing barriers and providing equal opportunities for everyone. Please indicate in the registration form your accessibility needs, if any. Alternatively, you can contact the logistics organiser of the event.
