Join the Law Department for a discussion marking the book launch of 'Extraterritoriality Around the Globe. Multiform Approaches in a Multipolar World'

The book Extraterritoriality Around the Globe analyses political and policy drivers of extraterritoriality across diverse social, cultural, and economic settings. It assesses the role of politics within the law and practice of extraterritoriality.

Extraterritoriality is one of the most complex concepts in international law, shaped by a dynamic interplay of legal, political, and practical factors. The book explores challenges in understanding extraterritoriality amid evolving international relations, the political forces behind state practices, and why international law matters in a field that may seem primarily national in scope.

To address these issues, the volume includes 12 case studies offering thematic and geographic breadth. By examining states’ extraterritorial behaviour, it provides a nuanced, empirical perspective on emerging trends and their role in shaping global legal and political landscapes in the 21st century.

During this launch event, we will hear from one of the book’s co-editors and explore three chapters (on France, India, and South Africa) with their authors.
