These ranged from the mass expulsions of Jews and Muslims from the Iberian Peninsula to the movements of merchants and sailors in ports and cities, and fishermen venturing out to sea in search of fish stocks.Writing the history of these varied mobilities raises methodological and historiographical challenges. This presentation addresses these challenges from the joint perspectives of the researcher and the writer. It draws on recent studies that explore key issues such as diasporas, connectivity, territoriality, and the legal status of individuals and communities.
