In this special edition of PLF Hour, alumni Gilbert Ang’ana and Nina Shengelia will share their experiences on defining a distinctive professional identity in policy and governance, followed by peer discussion with current fellows and alumni.
In an increasingly crowded policy landscape, standing out requires more than solid technical expertise. This PLF Hour special edition invites current Policy Leader Fellows and alumni to reflect together on how to refine their brand: how they present themselves, how they frame their expertise, and how they connect what they do with the kind of impact they wish to have.
The session builds on the regular PLF Hour format as a space for peer learning and open discussion within the fellowship community, while also fostering alumni engagement by bringing together current fellows, PLF alumni and alumni from different cohorts (including YALP). Through short inputs from two outstanding PLF alumni speakers and a collective conversation, participants will explore what it means to move from a generic policy profile to a clearer and more intentional professional identity.
PLF alumni speakers:
- Gilbert Ang’ana, Policy Leader Fellow alumnus and CEO/Founder of Accent Leadership Group. Gilbert is a leadership scholar and practitioner whose work focuses on governance and public policy in Africa. He has shaped a distinctive profile across academia, executive coaching and policy practice.
- Nina Shengelia, Policy Leader Fellow alumna and UK-qualified lawyer based in Tbilisi. Nina works at the intersection of digital rights, platform regulation and human rights, with expertise on online disinformation and the Digital Services Act. She is active with the Social Media Council Georgia.
The discussion will touch on how alumni have articulated their unique value proposition over time, for example through thought leadership, specialised expertise or visible engagement in their field. It will explore how to remain authentic while becoming more recognisable in one’s domain, and how to build trust and credibility in policy circles.
Format and approach:
This session is organised as a PLF Hour special edition, open to current Policy Leader Fellows and PLF alumni. It will combine brief inputs from the speakers (15 minutes each) with 30 minutes of open Q&A and discussion, creating space for exchange and networking between current fellows and alumni from different cohorts.
Target audience:
Current Policy Leader Fellows and PLF alumni (all cohorts) interested in reflecting on how they present and position their work and expertise within the broader policy and governance community.
