This event takes place on 29 and 30 January 2026 and features a discussion on new reflections on queer and/or intersectional perspectives in historical research.

The research groups Queer and Feminist Studies at the European University Institute and Storie di Sessualità e Genere at the University of Padua invite researchers to a two-day workshop to foster new reflections on queer and/or intersectional perspectives in historical research. The workshop seeks to critically discuss how tools, categories, and practices are shaped by heteronormative assumptions and the presupposition of fixed identities, and, conversely, how queer and intersectional approaches can help us interpret the past in fuller, more complex ways.

The workshop is organised around four thematic sessions: archival constraints and possibilities, questioning, reshaping, and subverting categories, reinterpreting heteronormative histories, and colonial and post-colonial contexts, in which selected researchers will present their papers. The workshop will also feature two keynote lectures, respectively by Régis Schlagdenhauffen (EHESS) and Valentina Fusari (Università di Torino). Everyone is welcome to join and listen to any part of the workshop.
