This workshop brings together authors and academics to discuss the central arguments of the forthcoming volume 'European Peace', edited by Alain Lamassoure.

This workshop, co-organized by the Historical Archives of the European Union and the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, builds on the collective book project on European Peace, edited by Alain Lamassoure. It brings together contributors and academics to reflect jointly on the volume’s central arguments and to consider the future intellectual trajectory of the project.

At a time when war has returned to the European continent and the European Union is undergoing profound changes driven by security challenges, enlargement dynamics, and geopolitical pressures, the event asks a fundamental question: What does it mean to study, defend, and transmit European peace today? The workshop will take the shared analytical foundations of the book as a point of departure to explore this question.

The event aims to create a space for cross‑chapter discussion, enabling contributors to identify key convergences, tensions, and blind spots across the volume in light of current security threats. It will also examine how the book’s findings can inform debates within EU institutions and related policy communities, including the development of recommendations on safeguarding European peace in an era marked by war, strategic competition, and institutional transformation.
