Have citizenship policies in Southeastern and Southern Europe converged over the past twenty-five years, and what drives policy change in a domain marked by national sovereignty?
This one-day capacity-building workshop brings together new and established country rapporteurs of the Global Citizenship Observatory (GLOBALCIT) from the Widening Europe region with EUI researchers and senior scholars. Each country expert presents a report on key developments in citizenship law since 2000, reflecting on their legal, demographic and political drivers.
Discussions focus on three lenses: policy diffusion, demographic change and political polarisation. The programme also addresses the practical challenges of data collection, analysis, country reporting and contributing to comparative databases, and discusses the role of country experts for independent, fact-based monitoring of citizenship law.
This workshop is part of the CONVERGE project on ‘Dynamics of policy convergence in European citizenship governance’ and is co-funded by the EUI Widening Europe Programme.
The EUI Widening Europe Programme, backed by contributions from the European Union and EUI Contracting States, is designed to strengthen internationalisation, competitiveness, and quality in research in Widening countries, and thus foster a more cohesive European Higher Education and Research Area.
At the EUI and the Robert Schuman Centre, we are dedicated to removing barriers and providing equal opportunities for everyone. Please indicate in the registration form your accessibility needs, if any. Alternatively, you can contact the logistics organiser of the event.
