Frontier Research on Fiscal Policy
With public debt levels rising across Europe and around the world, defense spending mounting, and new demands on public finances emerging, fiscal policy has moved to the centre of the economic policy debate. At the same time, higher debt-servicing costs and concerns about the sustainability of social insurance systems are forcing governments to confront difficult choices over spending, taxation, and fiscal adjustment.
Against this backdrop, the conference brings together leading researchers working at the frontier of fiscal policy. The conference examines how fiscal policy affects inflation, monetary policy, economic growth, technological change, migration, and the transmission of shocks, as well as the challenges posed by fiscal consolidation and the long-run sustainability of public debt and social insurance systems. By bringing together these different perspectives, the conference aims to advance our understanding of how fiscal policy should be designed in an environment of limited fiscal space, heightened uncertainty, and competing demands on public resources.
