World Storytelling Day, 25 March 2026: Light in the dark

Since 2004, World Storytelling Day (WSD) has been celebrated internationally on 20 March. Originating from Sweden, it was the first global event dedicated to oral storytelling as an art form. The day highlights the importance of sharing and listening to stories to foster connections across people and generations, celebrate cultural diversity, and inspire, engage, and entertain. 

In 2026, World Storytelling Day focuses on the theme Light in the Dark, offering an opportunity to reflect on the power of stories in times of uncertainty and complexity. In an academic environment such as the EUI, where evidence, history, and data are central, storytelling plays a complementary role. By bringing together academic research and storytelling, we can highlight human experience and diverse voices, to mainstream culture and narratives. 

Discussants at the event will include:

• EUI Professor Emerita Luisa Passerini, presenting her research project Bodies Across Borders: Oral and Visual Memory in Europe and Beyond (BABE)
• EUI PhD researcher in Law Antoine De Spiegeleir, building on his research on narrative and law When Courts become Storytellers
• NYU Florence Professor Scott Palmer, contributing a practice-based perspective to teaching with storytelling.
