Organised by

Public law scholars from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) are invited to apply for the inaugural edition of a new writing workshop, taking place on 21-22 September 2026.

The workshop will offer practical advice and mentoring to public law scholars from the region with little experience of publishing in high-profile English-language outlets. The workshop aims to demystify the process of publishing for a global audience, help CEE scholars navigate the peer review process, and guide them in forging an internationally relevant publication profile. Sessions will address themes including:

  • selecting the journal or outlet to target;
  • framing CEE-focused scholarship to a global audience;
  • preparing a manuscript for submission;
  • successfully engaging with peer review;
  • publishing interdisciplinary work; and
  • promoting published work.

The sessions will be highly participatory and aimed at engaging with real-world examples, highlighting best practices, and addressing common hurdles. They will be facilitated by scholars with significant experience in publishing and editorial work: Marta Bucholc (Warsaw); David Kosař (Masaryk); Mara Malagodi (Warwick); Zoltán Pozsár-Szentmiklósy (ELTE); Katarína Šipulová (Masaryk); and Silvia Suteu (EUI). Participants will receive practical advice and feedback on their written work, with the ultimate aim of facilitating submission of a paper to an international journal in their field. Early career scholars (including PhD researchers) are especially encouraged to apply.

Location: Department of Law, EUI, Villa Salviati, via Bolognese 156, Firenze 50139, Italy.

Costs of participation: The organisers will cover return travel within Europe and two nights' accommodation for participants.

Application process and deadline: Please fill out the application form here by 12:00 pm CET, 3 July 2026. If selected, a draft paper of up to 8,000 words will be expected by 7 September 2026.

Workshop organisers and funding: The workshop is organised by Silvia Suteu (EUI), David Kosař and Katarína Šipulová (both at Masaryk University). It is generously funded via the EUI’s Widening Europe Programme, which aims to build a bridge between the EUI and national higher education institutions in targeted Widening countries by offering, among other things, academic capacity-building opportunities such as this workshop.
