This event takes place within the framework of the seminar “Traditions of Legal Thought,” convened by Professor Arnulf Becker Lorca.

Yota Kravaritou was the first female professor to be appointed in the Law Department. As a Chair in Gender Law, she stayed at the EUI between 1991 and 1999. Her research focused on comparative law, European law, and social and labour law. She also explored the relationship between law and love, gender, the use of time, and feminist jurisprudence.

In 1996, Yota Kravaritou presented a paper at the Departmental Seminar entitled 'Approches féministes du droit - ou la pensée juridique féministe'. Members of the Department discussed the paper as well as the effect of ‘gender issues’ on their scholarship.

In 1998, Yota Kravaritou organised a conference on 'Law and Love in the European Union'.

As part of the EUI’s 50th anniversary, we will read the paper presented at the Departmental Seminar and Kravaritou’s chapter in the edited volume on Law and Love.

  • Yota Kravaritou, 'An Introduction and a Bibliography on Feminist Jurisprudence', EUI Working Paper LAW No. 97/4
  • Yota Kravaritou, ‘Law and Love: complex interrelations,’ p. 101-136 EUI Working Paper, LAW No 2000/2

You can find both readings in CADMUS.
