Final conference of the Widening Europe project "COMPO 2.0 – Competition system maturity and cartel enforcement in selected Widening countries", presenting empirical findings on the evolution of anti-cartel enforcement across Central and Eastern Europe.
This conference marks the final event of the Widening Europe research project Competition system maturity and cartel enforcement in selected Widening countries.
Its primary objective is to present the project’s empirical findings regarding the evolution of anti-cartel enforcement in selected jurisdictions of Central and Eastern Europe. The underlying research is based on an original, coded dataset of cartel decisions issued between 2004 and 2024 by the National Competition Authorities (NCAs) in Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, and Romania. The project’s Principal Investigators, national experts, and contributing scholars will present and discuss the empirical findings and structural evaluations across four core parameters of enforcement maturity: detection capacity, legal and institutional strength, sanctions and deterrence, transparency and impact of NCA decisions. Ultimately, the conference aims to draw comparative conclusions on the evolution of cartel enforcement across the region, providing valuable insights for academics, policymakers, and practitioners.
The conference is funded by the EUI Widening Europe Programme.
