Carbon pricing is increasingly being relied upon by states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to modernise their economies. States like Brazil and Türkiye are developing cap and trade regimes, while others such as Singapore rely on carbon taxation. Yet, progress could be much faster and more cooperation between constituencies would be welcome. The COP30 president, Brazil, has been investing significant effort to launch the Open Global Coalition on Compliance Carbon Markets in Belem. So far, more than 15 countries have joined the coalition, while others are considering membership. On the sidelines of the EUI Climate Week, the Board of the Coalition will hold its first meeting to discuss their long-term objectives and framework for further collaboration.

Chair: Jos Delbeke, European University Institute
