This interdisciplinary cluster event at the European University Institute brings together scholars and policymakers from law, political economy, finance, public policy, and economics to critically examine the opportunities and challenges embedded in the SIU agenda.

The European Union’s proposed Savings and Investment Union (SIU) is an ambitious effort to deepen capital markets, mobilise private savings, and direct investment toward strategic priorities such as the green and digital transitions. More than a technical financial initiative, however, the SIU raises important questions about governance, democratic legitimacy, social protection, and the evolving relationship between citizens and financial markets.

By fostering dialogue across disciplines and between academia and policymaking, the workshop seeks to advance understanding of the SIU as both a financial integration project and a broader political and social transformation.
