No other phenomenon has shaped human history as decisively as capitalism.
It structures how we live and work, how we think about ourselves and others, and how we organise our politics. Sven Beckert, prize-winning historian and Pulitzer Prize finalist, places the story of capitalism within a broad geographical and historical framework, tracing its development over the past millennium and across the globe. His newest book, Capitalism: A Global History, has garnered attention worldwide. In his talk, Beckert will present the book and reflect on how understanding capitalism’s history can help us think about our present.
