The seminar will discuss how China and the EU can work together to restore the functioning of the WTO.

The world trading system is under increasing stress and bilateral trade tensions have been mounting. This seminar will discuss priorities for China-EU cooperation, including in the sphere of the WTO. The seminar will discuss how the two major trade powers can work together to restore the functioning of the WTO, including by supporting the launch of negotiations in the WTO on rules governing industrial policy and more generally update the WTO to reflect changes that have occurred in the global economy since 1995.

Prof. Yang will present a proposal co-authored wit John Clarke; Prof. Ye will look into the different approaches to industrial policy in the EU and China; and Bernard Hoekman will speak to a recent paper on potential plurilateral pathways to establishing a framework for cooperation to manage systemic spillover effects.

At the EUI and the Robert Schuman Centre, we are dedicated to removing barriers and providing equal opportunities for everyone. Please indicate in the registration form your accessibility needs, if any. Alternatively, you can contact the logistics organiser of the event.

The PIANO project received funding from the European Commission under the G.A no. 101142666.
