EMIF annual conference

The 2023 calls for proposals opened in January this year, offering grant opportunities for projects aimed at fighting disinformation in Europe. With grants up to €400,000 per project, applicants from the eligible countries (EU, UK, and EFTA) could apply for funding in the fund's three areas of focus, namely, investigations into disinformation, research and sandboxes, and media and information literacy. The total funding available in each area was €1.6 million.

As the calls closed on 28 April 2023, 100 applications had come in, an 82% increase compared to the 1st round in 2022. Applicants requested a total amount of €29,905,537.52 in grants, which is six times more than the total allocated amount of €4.8 million for this round. This demonstrates the continuous need to support the researchers, investigators, media literacy practitioners, and other entities working to combat disinformation in Europe.

EMIF and its network of independent evaluators will review and evaluate the applications. The fund aims to announce the results of the successful applicants in the summer of 2023.
