Alexander Monge-Naranjo is Professor of Economics. Monge-Naranjo's research is centred on human capital and its role in macroeconomic outcomes and income distribution, including structural transformation, misallocation of resources, growth and international trade and investment. His work has been published in Econometrica, American Economic Review, The Quarterly Journal of Economics, Handbook of Education Economics, AJ Macro, among other leading journals.
In reacting to the appointment, Professor Monge-Naranjo shares what he foresees in his new role, "I am thrilled and honoured to lead this extraordinary group of professors, researchers, and administrators. Professor Monge-Naranjo succeeds Professor Andrea Ichino as Head of Department.
Nicolas Petit is Professor of Competition Law. Petit's research focuses on a range of topics, including the application of economic analysis to competition law, the intersection between competition law and intellectual property, and the regulation of digital markets. Petit has published his scholarly research in top journals including the Antitrust Law Journal, European Law Review, Review of Industrial Organization, Journal of Evolutionary Economics, Columbia Journal of European Law, and Berkeley Journal of Law & Technology.
Professor Petit comments about his appointment that, "The guideline is simple, 'steady as we go'. Thanks to my predecessors and a very skilled staff, the department is a pleasant workplace. I will try to further develop the department’s operational efficiency and entrepreneurial capabilities. I will also be attentive to the necessity of protecting scholarship against the growing trend of the academy to concern itself with non-research activities."
